YOUTH DIVISION

Ages 7 Years Through 12 Years

The Youth Division introduces students to dance as a performance art, encouraging them to grow as strong, coordinated, and curious young artists. Classes build on foundational skills while developing musicality, determination, and a deeper understanding of movement. With an emphasis on quality training in a supportive environment, the Youth Division helps dancers gain confidence and discover the artistry within their technique.

Note: While registration is based on age, faculty may move students to a more appropriate level. In the event of a level change, NPD office staff will contact you to complete registration in your new class.

Tuition is based on 18 week semesters (unless otherwise indicated in the class description)

Tuition Payment Options: Tuition payments are automatically scheduled into 4 monthly payments per semester. Unless the office is notified prior to the first payment.  The account holder must provide a credit card or e-checking for payments to be deducted automatically on the designated due dates. See the Student Handbook for tuition due dates and details.

Price match: Bring in a registration document and/or invoice from another dance studio and Northern Plains Dance will match their hourly rate for the current school year. If NPD’s hourly rate is already less, you will receive 5% off for the current school year. New students only. Cannot be combined with other discounts.

ADAPTIVE DANCE 

An inclusive program with a specifically designed adaptive curriculum, Adaptive Dance provides children of all abilities with a therapeutic dance experience. Students are given the tools for a successful exploration of dance while being in a safe environment. Students will gain increased body awareness, develop fundamental motor skills, improve self-esteem, concentration and focus, and have fun expressing themselves creatively.

BEGINNING BALLET

Students ages 7 and over who are interested in Ballet with no previous experience should register for Beginning Ballet. In this class, dancers will learn basic movement vocabulary and terminology, positions of the feet and arms, as well as safe stretching techniques.  While in Beginning Ballet, students will be assessed for potential placement in a leveled class.

Cost: $306 per semester ($76.50 per month with 4 monthly payments)
Schedule: 60 Minutes / Once a Week

Note: Students will be notified of transfer level after attending a minimum of 6 classes.

BALLET 1A

Students begin formal barre and center work within the structure of a traditional ballet class. This level supports the development of strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, laying the groundwork for more advanced technique.

Ages: 7-9 years
Cost: $338 per semester ($84.50 per month with 4 monthly payments)

BALLET 1B

Building on the vocabulary and skills introduced previous levels, this level further develops strength, coordination, and confidence in the formal ballet class setting. Dancers begin to work with more intricate movement patterns and combinations, supporting continued growth in alignment, balance, and body awareness. This transitional level prepares students for the increased complexity of future levels while reinforcing essential technique and artistry.

Ages: 8-10 years by placement
Cost: $379 per semester ($94.75 per month with 4 monthly payments)

For dancers who have mastered elementary ballet concepts, this level emphasizes musicality, body direction, and arm positions. Dancers build stamina and learn longer phrases at the barre and center to develop technical clarity and performance presence.

Ages: 10+ years by placement
Cost: $454 per semester ($113.50 per month with 4 Monthly Payments)
Schedule: 90 Minutes / Once a Week

Intermediate Ballet welcomes students with some previous ballet training who want to return to ballet, as well as students who prefer to work in a slower-paced environment. While in Intermediate Ballet, students will be assessed for potential placement in a leveled class.

BOYS IN MOTION

Specialized training for aspiring male dancers, this class emphasizes coordination, gross motor skill development, musicality, and spatial awareness, all essential for future men’s work in ballet. Students will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of age appropriate movements and pathways through engaging games and activities, fostering athleticism, strength, coordination, camaraderie and discipline.

CONTEMPORARY 2

As students progress from Contemporary/Modern 1, dancers are encouraged to explore the vibrant world of contemporary dance. This class serves as a platform for deepening artistic expression through improvisation and learning dance phrases. Branching out of the concept learned in the previous level, this class put more emphasis on creative expression and dynamics of the movements. Dancers will learn various tools to improve their performance skill and quality.

Ages: 9-12 years

MODERN 2

Students will continue to explore the foundations of modern dance technique, including contraction and release, fall and recovery and the use of momentum. Students will also have the chance to explore techniques of Improvisation and Introduction to Movement Composition.

CROSS-TRAINING FOR DANCERS

Enhance your overall performance. Is getting up en pointe a struggle? Are balances a challenge? Can you do your splits but are unsuccessful at getting your leg above 90 degrees? Or, have you been told that you lack core engagement during class? Cross-training teaches dancers how to engage the proper muscles to execute a movement and the ability to move with more care and intentionality using a combination of Pilates and other conditioning styles. This class meets once weekly.

Ages: 10+ years
Cost: $136 per semester ($34 per month with 4 monthly payments)

HIP HOP

Hip Hop students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class without suggestive music or movements. Freestyle dance and hip hop choreography promotes coordination, rhythm and confidence.  Combining hip hop basics with current styles, students gain agility while having fun.

Our homeschool dance classes are thoughtfully designed to complement your home education journey. These classes provide a creative outlet for movement and expression while supporting physical education, fine arts, and social development. Held during the day to accommodate homeschool schedules, these classes offer a fun and focused environment where students can stay active, build confidence, and express themselves through dance.

This high energy beginners class will guide students in jazz dance vocabulary with special attention paid to proper movement patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz to help develop a well rounded dancer. Challenging students to cultivate musicality, dancers will use teamwork to inspire their movement. Class consists of warm-up, across the floor, and set choreography.

PREPOINTE

Emphasizing foot-strengthening exercises and alignment, Pre-Pointe is a thorough approach that assures a safe and solid foundation allowing the student to be in control and at ease when working en pointe. Endurance and consistency will determine individual progress. Students must attend the ballet class previous to the Pre-Pointe class time they select. Students who are placed in pointe levels are expected to train year-round.

Ages: 9-12 years by invitation

Students will learn an intermediate variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm Tap. Students are taught to add sounds to the basic tap steps. Musicality is stressed while teaching the student to count their sounds between the beats to create more complex rhythms. Students will learn more challenging combinations and routines, enhancing their performance quality and stage presence.

Exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows, students improve their jazz and tap technique to facilitate character development. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through movement.
