Adaptive Dance Class

(ADC)

An inclusive program with a specifically designed adaptive curriculum, ADC provides children of all abilities with a therapeutic dance experience. Students are given the tools for a successful exploration of dance while being in a safe environment. Students will gain increased body awareness, develop fundamental motor skills, improve self-esteem, concentration and focus, and have fun expressing themselves creatively. 

Fridays | 5:45pm-6:15pm

Adaptive Classes are offered throughout the year in a workshop style – attend as many or as few as fit your schedule.  Each session runs for 5 weeks.

What to expect:

The first class of each session will be an introduction day to get to know the studio, the teachers, volunteers, and participants in addition to NPD learning about your child’s needs.

Classes will take place in an open dance studio space with items to address your child’s individual sensory needs:

      •  tumbling mats
      •  weighted blankets
      • tents
      • fidget toys
      • exercise balls
      • music at a lower volume

Each class includes stretching, exploring movements from different styles of dance, and even dance games! A parent or support person will dance with the students. If necessary, it is acceptable for participants to take breaks or exit the dance studio with a parent or volunteer.
