The Future of Our Past
Choreography: Katherine Hardy
Visual Art: James Lawson
Music: Our World By Tom Day
Vikersund By RORE & Avery Bright
Etne by RORE & Avery Bright
“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” -A quote by Dr. Seuss.
The inspiration for this piece came after going through family photos of a loved one who recently passed away. A photograph of a moment in time captured to be revisited and to be enjoyed. This piece is about the moments we choose to display in a frame. The times that we feel most inspired, loved, and protected and the times that we most want to remember. For it is within these frames that our past gets to live on.
The Butterfly Effect
Choreography: Hollis Mackintosh Heid
Visual Art: Rhonda Weninger
Music: Cello Suite No.1 in G Major, J.S. Bach
Performed by Yo-Yo Ma
“The threads of our past never unravel; they hover like invisible webs, occasionally glistening in the sunlight.” — Author, Anne Roiphe.
When a butterfly flaps its wings, does it unknowingly set off a chain of events that causes a tornado in another part of the world? Does the impact of our seemingly insignificant actions unravel the tapestry of cause and effect that defines our interconnected existence? The thought of such an impact encourages us to acknowledge chaos and to be thoughtful with our decisions because we never know what the consequence of those might be.
One Take
Choreography: Rosari Sarasvaty
Visual Art: Nicole Gagner
Music: The Dancer by Levi Gunardi
Dahayu by Levi Gunardi
While living among seven billion people in the world, how can I find absolute freedom in my body while acknowledging the space I share with others? Knowing that we only have one take at life, what would I do to feel free? What would I let go of to feel light? What would I hold on to, to feel content? Can I deconstruct the norm in a way that feels truthful and honest to me, my body, and the space around me?
The Weight of the Veil
Choreography: Andrea Byrd
Visual Art: Nicole Gagner
Music: Exit, Run 44, and Della Solitudine by Ezio Bosso, Antonio Vivaldi, Julian & Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, European Union Orchestra & Hans-Peter Hofmann Gli’Occhiali, lo Non Ho Paura, and Per Volare by Ezio Bosso
The Weight of the Veil tells a story about loss. Each section is inspired by the emotions experienced through the 5 stages of grief. Everyone’s story is different, with no linear path of how to cope. The only way forward is through acknowledging the tangled mess of feeling. Time eases the pain, and the absence of what once existed stings a little less. The love that once had a home must go somewhere. For now, it goes inward, trust leading the way to healing.
